Cross Section Labels

Team -

I am trying to figure out how to label the ROW Lines in my cross sections that I generated from Corridor Modeling in Geopak.  I have looked at the "Cross Section Labeling" tool and I can't seem to find how you are supposed to enter your own text. I already have points defined in my cross sections ready to recieve a text label, if only i could figure out use my text instead of an elevation, offset, or slope value.   I have about 2500 +/- cross sections that need several text labels each.  Using Criteria files, with the Proposed Cross section tool, is not an option.  The Ancillary Features tool may help with some of my lables but not all of them.  I am a Geopak veteran, but I am a little new to Corridor Modeling.  How do the rest of you guys do this?

  • Hey Daniel,

I have been thinking about your request.  There are really three ways to look at this.  The obvious one is Criteria which you have said is not an option.  Having said that, I can certainly post an example piece of Criteria for you.  Secondly is the XS Labeler you mention.  Currently this labeler is only able to label slopes and elevations.  So you are right in that labeling a right of way line is not going to work.  Thirdly is the Ancillary Data application and it's possibilities.

First lets talk about the XS labeler.  Although it is not currently capable of misc. labels, it is a MVBA application in which we have provided the source code.  So if you or someone in your organization knows VBA I am sure they could enhance this.  The intent of this application was to make it universal for all users.  But then if someone wants to take it further they certainly can.

Second is the Ancillary Data application.  Now this application is really geared towards customized labeling.  I was kind of surprised when you said you could only do some of your labeling with this application.  I would think you should be able to do what you need to with this application.

So the solution kind of falls back to you.  Criteria, VBA customization, or Ancillary Data.  If the first two are NOT an option, then post what issues you are having with Ancillary Data and we will see what might be the problem.

    This is a test

  • Hi Daniel,

there may be another option depending on what data you have and what annotation you are trying to create.

The XS Tabular Data tool can annotate specific points with User text... but it really depends on exactly what note you are trying to apply.
