3D Modelling of Miscellaneous Utilities

Hello,

I am working with Bentley Geopak Microstation/Civil V8i.  I am currently working on a project with significant utilities at an intersection.  a couple of the utilities I am responsible for design of (water main, Force main).  Several others are utilities to be relocated by individual utility companies however, I am responsible for verifying we should not have conflicts.

I have my design roadway and storm sewer in a 3D model.    Is there any way to import the various utilties into this 3D model to be able to view all the utilities and check for possible conflict points?  Given an alignment and profile as well as a diameter, one would think I should be able to import this into the 3D drawing.

The only information I can find is to use the Conflict Finder in the Drainage module.  However, this does not give me a 3D rendering of the utilities.

 Thanks for any help.

Ryan

  • Ryan - Instead of creating miscellaneous utilities, create these existing utilities as water lines.  For example, let's say you have an existing underground telephone line.

    1. use the graphic for the telephone line to create a water line named "Telephone" (or whatever)
    2. Make the radius equal to size of the conduit.  Maybe you add an additional amount to the radius to account for any uncertainty in the location.  So maybe the conduit is 3".  You might define the radius for the line as 15" to allow a buffer zone.
    3. Now since this is a water line you have full access to 3D display, profiles and conflict finder.
    4. TIP: In your water library, create a "waterline" definition for the telphone line so it will look differently than the true waterlines.
