Inroads V8i/V8i Select Series compatibility issue

I have a student using a 64-bit win7 version of inroads V8i Select Series at his home and coming in to our lab (32-bit winXP with V8i) his dtm files are not recognized.

The default save format for V8i Select series is an 8.11.7- is there a way to change this default save version and can V8i select series work with legacy dtm files?

Yes, InRoads V8i SELECT Series 1 can read legacy dtm files and alg files, and yes, 8.11.7 files can be saved back to the 8.11.5 format. To save 8.11.7 (V8i SELECT Series 1) to a format readable by 8.11.5 (V8i) use File/Save As... Set the file type to the one you are saving, and select the Options... button in the lower right corner. This will bring up a dialog that allows you the file format you wish to save the dtm/alg as. HTH Denis

Denis,

Just curious, is there new data now stored in the alg and dtm that warranted the new file versions, or is it just a different file structure? When you save it down, does it delete any data, or does it simply make it so the previous versions ignore it? Thanks.

Hi Chris,

Yes there is new data stored, so you will lose information if you save it down. (Overlay Component properties in the dtm, and something I can't recall in the alg)

I think that the new alg file accomodates long descriptions for cogo points, including linking graphics to the descriptions.
