You might want to look at the Quick Extract tools found under the Modeler/Elements/Quick menu.

Neil provided one option.

The other option is DTM>Extract graphics.

Populate the dialog as shown below. I have the "level" field empty at present. Enable as many symbology filter options as required to isolate the text you are interested in. Then click the "match" button and select the piece of text to automatically populate the filter fields.

The "content" option at the bottom of the dialog tells the tool to "read" the text value as the elevation. The XY location will be the text justification point.

That should create the DAT file you are looking for.

I have a similar task. trying to make a 2d landscaping plan useful in 3d.
However after following the dat file creation, continually get a blank file created.
It doesn't help that I dont quite understand what is going on re: matching types/ levels, but if anyone may be able to help, would be good.
