i have an existing surface (dtm) and i am putting in a proposed concrete pad at a certain elevation. i want the pad to tie into the existing ground at 2 to 1 how do i generate a new proposed surface showing the 2 to 1 slope .

Build a simple end condition template with the slope you want and use the Surface>Design Surface>Apply Template command
or
use the Generate Longitudinal Feature command. (I think that can do what you're asking)
If you already have a shape drawn at the elevation you want the pad to be at in your CAD file, you can use Surface > Design Surface > Generate Slope Surface.
Make sure to toggle off the Generate Graphics Only off.
