Designing intersections in the roadway designer with the use of secondary alignments for the curb returns works WONDERFULLY... Until I have to run volumes.
To mimic the secondary alignments in cross section, I currently use custom linestrings flared off at stations with curb returns (see below) for any point reports I need, but volumes can't be run on these custom cross sections. For volumes I have to run a separate set of x-sections around each curb return 'alignment'.
Why can't I apply secondary alignments in the cross sections dialog? i would love to be able to run my reports and volumes off the SAME cross sections (or at least not have to create tons of cross sections just to get volumes).
Has anyone found a good way to run volumes with curb returns? i hope I'm just missing an easier way to do this!
Thanks!

For intersections I have used the triangle method with a shape around the area not included in cross section end area volumes. I gets the job done. Just be careful of what TIN model you are using (subgrade vs finished grade).
Is it possible to obtain component volumes via triangle method?
