When doing a fresh install of Microstation and Inroads SS2 I got a message:Error 1720 Path of InRoads not set in InRoadsAT.cfg
It then automatically undid the Inroads install. I ran it again and it seemed to load ok but I'm not sure. When I go to open Inroads, everything opens up and seems to be there. No messages are brought up.
What does this error message mean? How can I be sure I have a good installation?

I'm getting that same error on the install for IR 8.11.07.492. The .cfg file error is immediately followed by CopyXINItl vbscript error dialog. The installer rolls back the installation and nothing is installed.

With help from Bentley Support I got the issue resolved.
1. First I removed all traces of the previous install of IR SS2 - removed the application, deleted any product folders/files not deleted by the remove utility, removed left over registry keys.
2. Before trying the install again I disabled the Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC) and rebooted.
After I did those two things the application installed for me without any problems.
For those of you upgrading to IR 8.11.07.492 you will also want to take a look at this wiki article about the startup changes for InRoads.

I was getting the same error. I tried the above procedure with no success; however, I tried installing the program as "SYSTEM" and it worked.
Error 1720 is a generic Windows Installer error:
