I'm trying to find the most appropriate Bentley Institute course to train our designers on Roadway Designer/Corridor Modeling. All of our designers have been using the old Criteria method of developing cross sections, and we're now looking to adopt the new workflow.
I see two promising course descriptions on the Bentley LEARN Server, and I was hoping to get some comments from Bentley folks in the know, or others who have taken these courses.
The first is GEOPAK Corridor Modeler, XM Edition 8.9 (Imperial). This is the most recent version of the course that I could find. It seems targetted at exactly the portion of the program with which we require training, so I'm leaning towards this one. Has much changed since 8.9? Would the between 8.9 and 8.11 (SS2) cause much confusion to a pupil?
The second course is Road Fundamentals using GEOPAK, V8i 8.11 (SELECTseries 1) (Imperial). This one is updated for V8i SS1, but it covers more than just the Roadway Designer module and clocks in at 32 hours vs 24 for the first course. This looks to be a comprehensive update of the old GEOPAK Road I course. It includes all of the same bullet points under the Course Topics that are listed in the first course, plus all of the topics one would cover in the workflow leading up to the proposed cross sections (DTMs, alignments, profiles, etc.).
I'd like to be able to offer the more targeted, and shorter, course to our designers, but only if it is still largely applicable to the current version of the software.
Any thoughts?
Hi Adam
I recommend you look at the V8i Update For GEOPAK, V8i(SELECTseries 2) course. This course has replaced the Corridor Modeler course you found. It it primarily focused on the same Corridor Modeler topics plus a few extra items that existing users should be aware of when they upgrade to the newer versions of GEOPAK. I included the link to the SELECTseries 2 course but it is also available for SELECTseries 1 if you need. There will be a SELECTseries 2 (Refresh) verson of the course posted in the next couple of weeks.
