[MX V8I SS2] Imprting *.DTM file

Hello,

I received a survey from geodesist saved to file with DTM extension [ map.dtm ]. Does anyone know how to import it to MX?

Best regards

  • Probably have found the solution:

Import: File / CAD Menu / Tools / Data Acquisition / Surfaces / Create Surface... / Import External Surface... / Import InRoads DTM / "map.dtm"

    Export: File / CAD Menu / Tools / Data Acquisition / Surfaces / map / Export / Export to... / MX modelfil / "map.fil"

Is it Right or Round? :)

  • If the *.dtm file was created with Bentley InRoads, you are right!

  • Hi Aleksander,

Yes, your are right. But this will only get you the triangulation.

The recommended way to exchange data between InRoads and MX is LandXML.

If you can get a LandXML file from the survey company, then you should be able to also get the breaklines and random points across.

  • Hello,

Thanks, with LandXML is a little bit longer (import from DTM in DA / export to LandXML in DA / imprt from LandXML in MX) but as You say I got also points, breaklines and borders.

  • Hi Alek

I would initally create a new model before importing the DTM file into MX.

In the Tasks Tool Panel there is a Data Aquisition tool which will allow you to import a DTM (You can also access the tool using the menu bar Tool>Data Aquisition). This tool allows you to import the DTM as a surface. Right click on Surface and follow  the links as shown on the import screen shot below and select InRoads DTM.

When you have imported the DTM you can export it to an MX model. Right click on the Map surface and follow the links as shown on the export screen shot below. Select the model.fil and hit save.

In the MX model list you should now have a MAP Tria model.
