Cross Section Output

Hi guys,

My boss has asked me to look into this one. A Contractor on a recent job informed him of receiving a Cross-Section package of 11x17 drawings with each cross section on each individual sheet, containing all volume and annotation information.

Does anyone here have something set up, or can help me set-up my Cross-Sections to out put this way instead of the roll?

Also, seen as though there will be anywhere from 10 to 1000 sections drawings, depending on the job, is there an automated way to have the sheets set ready to print, either AutoCAD or Microstation?

As you can guess, this is an attampt to quicked the output process, and create a better final package.

Thanks for your help in advance.

  • Create Cross section, supports your needs (Microstation based)

    Create Borders as separate dgn

setup the Border annotation setup  as described in the Inroads help (Microstation only)

Set the Cross section Layout  to create Sheet Modells (Microstation only), set the approriate settings, scale , sheet size a. s.

Create the Cross Sections  > 10-1000 Sheetmodells get created

Use Print Organizer to batch print your X-sections

  • You asked if anyone had something setup that created cross sections by sheet 11x17 one cross section per sheet.  See attached xin under Evaluation > Cross sections > Cross Sections... there is a preference named LetterSize(11x17) this does what you were looking.  This preference draws a shape around the cross sections that represents the border, we also have a cell with this same shape that is used when the border with title block information is needed.  The cross sections are all drawn in a single DGN model spaced horizontally across.  As mentioned the Plot Organizer is then used to pull out each plot shape or cell definition to make a set of plots.   Additionally the volume and other annotations can be added to the cross section set and plotted all from one Plot Organizer interface.

  • Are you familiar with the Plan and Profile Generator? You can create cross section sheets with it as well, with all of the title block fields populated automatically. Batch print with Print Organizer as stated below.

Mike, I didn't check out your preference file (yet). Do you use the P&P Generator for that? If not, I assume you've determined that this method is better. Does your preference automatically set up scaling as well?
