As I do my earthwork runs, I have some construction that starts and stops and starts again. I would like Geopak to read those sections without proposed construction as "Zero volumes". Instead it skips over them, carrying earthwork quantities through areas that have no earthwork. This REALLY throws my numbers off and requires a fair amount of hand calculation to correct. I know about "Ignore Areas" or "Skip areas", but neither of them really works to give me zero areas when there is no construction. I can get correct results if I create a separate earthwork input file for each and every short run of construction, but this is time consuming and tedious. Why will Geopak not recognize areas of "zero" work?

In the past I have gone to the sections that you need 0 cut/fill and have drawn a small proposed element along the existing linework. It reads this as a 0 cut/fil and incorporates it into the calcs. Best I can offer. HTH

That's not working for me. I traced over about a foot of existing ground with my proposed element, but Geopak still tells me "no proposed XS elements at this station" so it wants to skip it, not zero it.

Tracing over the ground didn't work, but placing in a tiny vertex just off ground did. I don't like having these extra elements in my drawing, but at least my earthwork looks right. Any chance this will ever get fixed?

It's not really anything we can 'fix', as it's not considered a bug. If there are no proposed elements then there is nothing to calculate. GEOPAK doesn't assume you want to zero them out - in fact, it assumes you have a problem (i.e. there are no proposed elements).

One more thing I left out...you may have to adjust the tolerance to a smaller number when you try my suggestion.
