InRoads v8i SS2 EC override in superelevation problem

I am working on a project where I have been trying to add an end condition override in a superelevated section of a road.

In this first picture I have the roadway modeled fine except I want the short slope on the right to go down instead of up. So I created an end condition exception for this area.

When I apply the end condition exception I get the following.......

You can see the contours become jagged in this area and the second picture shows the features a created with a hump.

I can't figure out why this is happening in a superelevated area. It is a simple 2 lane road. There is only 1 template. This also happened a little further up the road where there is a structure. I created an EC exception so the modeler would remove the slopes. When it came to the structure there would be a jump in the features and the contours would be jagged. The only way I could prevent that from happening in that area was to copy my template and remove the end conditions from the template. Even defining the EC to use backbone only did not rectify the issue.

Does anyone have any insight? This only happens in superelevated areas.

  • Could you post your template library?

Would your template happen to be using one of the 'Project To' constraints?

  • Here is my template library. I don't think anything is using an "Project To" constraint however I am I working on another project at the moment and I can not verify that right now.

  • I think I have seen something like this happen before as well.  From what I can remember I added an end condition exception at a station where the template was transitioning from normal crown to superleveated.  For some reason the end condition exception origin point would not move with the edge of roadway.  It's almost as if it was locked at the location from the first station in the end condition exception range.  Like it was missing a constraint or something; even though I thought I had merged the ECE origin with the templte point.  Check your roadway modeler section view to see if something like this is happening over the ECE station range.

  • Thanks for the reply. As you mention that it seems to be locked at the first station I am wandering if I make the End Condition a child of the edge of should if that would fix the issue. I will need to see if that is possible and whether or not that fixes the issue. I will test and post results later.

  • I tried making the End Condition Exception component a child to the Edge of Shoulder and it did not make a difference.
