using parametric constraints for pavement widening

hello guys, am working on a design and i tried using parametric constraints to widen the roadway within a specific station range, but it seems that i don't have a firm understanding of the tool, pls any advice or workflow for using parametric constraints for pavement widening would be appreciated. thanks guys

  • Sir,

Try to get familiar yourself with MX input files that would be more easier than parametric modelling, because parametric modelling is ideal for sections where we come across consistent cross-section type and it is not ideal for sections where cross-sections are not consistent, hope i have thrown some clariy if not please revert

  • The first thing to do is to make sure in your template(s) that you have an horizontal constraint label defined. Edit the template point and under constraint label for Horizontal key-in a name for the lable. I generally use the point name to keep things in perspective. Do the same for both sides of the teample at your pavement edges.

In the Roadway Designer update the template drops. Then go to the parametrics area. Your defined horizontal constraint labels should be in the drop down list. Fill-in the necessary parameters and you should be good to go.

  • jluko thanks it worked, i found using parametric constraints very intuitive and much more flexible for me, most especially for widening the roadway. thanks

  • Thanks, I have always found parametric constraints are more powerful than horizontal point controls for pavement widening. Always remember your default pavement width. The horizontal parametric constraint works in conjunction with the point it is constrained to.

  • joe you are absolutely correct, i was able to spot where i made a mistake, i completely forgot to assign individual constraints labels, but now i now understand it much better, i can now use constraints to reduce the thickness of my pavement, also i can use it to widen my pavement, it is a great tool that every one new to inroads should give a try.

Joe i must specially thank you for your expertise.
