Hi all,
I am trying to create a ditch by using site modeler along the south and east side of the parking lot.
Here is the info:
1) parking lot has -1% slope from northwest to southeast corner, hence water flows from northwest to southeast and i need to create ditchs along the south and east boundary.
2) currently i am have to create an alignment just along thoes the east ans south boundary, import geometry from my parking lot along the horizontal alignment as a vertical, then create a corridor just with a ditch on one side and targeting the existing surface. Also i have to sombine these 2 surfaces after.
I am wondering if there is a way to create it just by using site modeler without using roadway designer? ( i knew in pad design, there is a complex slope option, but it will only generate a drain ditch when in cut, i need in both cut and fill situation)
Thank you in advance!
You could also create it just using the basic Surface Features. Create your swale centerline with a Longitudinal Feature, and do your horizontal and vertical offsets from that. You don't even have to start at the bottom centerline, though it helps when creating a profile. You can come right off the edge of the parking lot if you like. Use the Generate Sloped Surface once the feature lines are created. There's a few ways you can do it. Heck, you can even create one with nothing but some strategically placed spot elevations and just show the contours, though that would really be more trouble than it's worth, considering there's better options, and you couldn't create a profile for it.
If you want it tied to the parking lot as Neil alluded to, then the Site Modeler is the way to go. That way, if you update the parking lot (e.g. change the elevation), the swale moves right along with it. That can be advantageous, or disadvantageous though.
Ditches/swales are usually pretty straight forward...simple ones anyway.
