Civil geometry reverse curve spirals

HI,

I have recently started using MX V8i SS2's civil geometry tools for my horizontal setout.

One thing I am trying to do is to create reverse curve spirals. This is quite simple to achieve using MX's standard alignment tools, but I cannot seem to get it working in the Civil Geometry tools.

Is it actually possible to do this?

Still on CG Tools, is it possible to insert new elements into an existing complex alignment (i.e lines and arcs) without breaking the associativity of strings hanging off the main alignment?

Thanks in advance

  • The reverse transition command does not contain spirals as part of the reverse curves definition.  This is planned for a future release.  You can accomplish the same result (although in more steps) by constructing the intermediate straight and constructing two curves instead of a single reverse construction.

If you are instead referring to the need for constructing reverse spirals on other curve commands such as Arc To Element, this capability is added in our next release. Example, constrcuting arc to element where the reference element is curved will often need to have a reverse spiral when the nex arc is on the outside of the curve.  To accomplish this in current release, you can construct a single spiral and then the reverse spiral in a seperate step.

To insert additonal elements in an existing complex, first use the Microstation Insert Vertex command and then add a new curve at the new vertex.  This is streamlined in our next release with a dedicated insert curve command.
