Adjusting traverse values in InRoads Survey

Is there any way to adjust the traverse values (northing, easting, elev) in InRoads itself and it dynamically change all the other points that were shot from the reassigned traverse values? I've tried numerous ways and it still keeps the original values for everything BUT what I changed manually.

Thanks,

Gary

  • Im not sure I understand what you mean. I import the raw file and I try to manipulate it in the fieldbook and it does not let me. How else can I import it and still modify it?

    Thanks!

  • Post the raw file - use the advanced reply editor to get to the attach file page.

In a raw file, if you shoot traverse points in certain ways and then use them to setup on as stations, you can run the traverse adjustment routines and when done, return them to the fieldbook and it will use them as adjusted coordinates.

It depends upon your raw file format. My experience is with TDS RW5/RAW files. In that format, there are traversing shots and sideshots. the traversing shots can be brought into an adjustment.

Additionally, you can use the ADJ code on sideshots and they can also be brought into an adjustment.

You can only adjust coordinates of computed points that the software sees as traverse points.

If you import only coordinates, no adjustments are possible.

  • I tried the traverse adjustment tool, but the OK button was greyed out. I've attached the file as a .txt because it wouldnt let me do an .rw5. You can just rename it back once you download it. Thanks a lot for the help!

The correct values for the traverse are as follows:

    111 - Northing: 522190.0536

              Easting: 1256326.5306

    112 - Northing: 521930.3012

               Easting: 1256929.7974

    The elevations should be good.

  • Any points brought in as SP will be non-adjustable, fixed coordinates.

We actually use Starnet to adjust our traverses and then import the starnet points as our fixed points.

But I know others who use the Network Adjustment in InRoads and from what I understand, Bentley licensed the least squares routine from Starnet (or use the same algorithms as Starnet.)

If you want to use different coordinates, you can simply edit the SP lines to reflect the corrected coordinates.

Unless you edited the TDS.TIW file delivered with the product, only SP codes result in fixed coordinates. The OC which contain coordinates, are only read to obtain the OP (occupied point) number/name and the coordinates are ignored by InRoads.

We usually turn all SP codes into comments to be certain that only Starnet Points that have been adjusted are read.

There are codes in the TDS syntax that are used when shooting a traverse for later adjusting and when those are used (or the ADJ code is added to SS codes - like your FLY shots) that will allow you to run a network adjustment on them. But you need to shoot the points multiple times from multiple locations for the software to be able to perform an adjustment. When done in that manner, the adjusted points serve as your "fixed" station points.

  • It makes sense now. Thanks a lot for your help!
