InRoads DGN to 2D DGN

Please forgive my lack of knowledge of InRoads, but we only have to deal with it here and there. We received a survey that was done with InRoads, and one of the files we received is the Topo file, which is a 3D DGN with the points and line strings displayed. I would like to be able to convert this to a 2D file to use in our plans. When I try to do the simple "Export>2d...", I lose almost all the elements that originally had an elevation (something other than 0). I have also tried to copy the elements into a 2D file from the referenced 3D file, but they again disappear.

If needed, I may be able to just get by using the 3D file, but it doesn't let me fully edit the elements in the 3D file. I can change the symbology, but I can't rotate elements or anything like that.

Is there something that I am missing that could give me functionality that I need?

Thanks for the help.

  • What do you like to archive?

IMHO all rotate functionality will work in 3D too!

What survey elements do you like to rotate, cells?

For me (as a surveyor and site planning) it is a huge advantage to work with 3D-Modells.

If you use Export>2D, don't use a rotated view (or use the "Ignore Rotation button") and for me Export 2D works with my InRoads Survey DGN data! so there must be something else going on

  • The elements I am most likely to rotate are the cells that come in. I've used the Export>2D before with files that aren't coming from InRoads and it has worked fine. Not sure why it wouldn't be working with these files.

  • Are the elements that are disappearing referenced into the 3d drawing from another attachment? Only elements in the active file would be retained if you merged the 3d file to a 2d file. I don't know if references would be retained when exporting 3d to 2d. Does your original 3d file have references. If it does and you turn them off what elements disappear.

There's obviously something not right. I've exported plenty of 3d files to 2d and never had elements disappear.
