I am trying to use plan graphics to create my base model. I am creating a chain named IEOT_LT for the left inside edge of travel. I set the side to L but I realized the left IEOT actually crosses over to the right side of the alignment. I tried to use a negative offset to get it to look across the alignment, but that didn't work. I know it can be done because I have seen it done. I also tried to use IEOT_LT with the side set to L and then create another (with the same IEOT_LT name) and set the side to R. That didn't work either. I will then use these plan graphics to set up point controls that were already set up in an IRD file. The original RDP file shows that it was done when I view the alg, but the plan graphics data appears to be corrupted which is keeping me from seeing how the previous designer did it.
Your description sounds like you have to cross your control like for a median or a turn lane. First, I would set a horizontal alignment for the line that crosses the control line. From there in your template and designer you will need to have IEOT_LT point follow the the alignment to the point that it intersects with the control line. Then you would need a IEOT_RT point contine on the right side of the alignment. All this can be designed in point controls in the roadway designer. Additionally, you would need an event station drop at the intersected station. Have event stations turned on in the designer. That is a condensed version on how to model it.
