We are trying to use the Multiple Elements Regression tool for a sequence of 10 horizontal elements.
6 elements should have defined lengths and curvature, and 4 elements should have free lengths (but defined

Re: Horizontal Element Regression Analysis - Using Defined Fixed Point on Alignment

(On behalf of user)

Thanks for this. It is a useful work around, but still not really a complete solution.

Actually, we would like there to be an additional option from the one I requested earlier. As well as specifying a pass through coordinate, we would also like for there to be able to specify an offset from this coordinate.

An example of how this is useful would be if we had a survey point for a signal post or bridge parapet for example and we wished to offset our alignment at a specific distance from it.

We would like to ask Bentley to put this feature into the next update of Railtrack. How should we go about formally requesting this?

Re: Horizontal Element Regression Analysis - Using Defined Fixed Point on Alignment

The problem as stated is not a regression analysis problem (i,e, regression analysis expects multiple points / element so that multiple freedoms can be defined and solved).

But you can use the Multi-Element command and define 3 unknowns and solve. In this case the you will use a manual bisection technique (i.e. manually iterate the length of the first element until the changes in length are insignificant).
