A user has an existing TIN file and then received additional survey that appears in several different areas and needs to be combined with the existing data. What is the most efficient method to bring in the new survey data while replacing the old data?

  • Hi,

If the new data is to REPLACE the existing data in the same areas... do this.

    1) Create a TIN for each new area of data.

    2) Use the editing tools to make the TIN bounday (hull) as small as it should be to accurately define the each of the areas of new data.

    3) Now merge the new TINS on top of the existing TIN. You will do this one at a time. Each time, a new TIN will be created. See the proceedure below.

    Merge #1) Existing Ground + New Area 1 = New Ground 1

    Merge #2) New Ground 1 + New Area 2 = New Ground 2

    Merge #3) New Ground 2 + New Area 3 = New Ground 3

    etc

Please save off your current existing ground TIN and the end data TINs you created and edited before starting the merge process in case you have any issues and need to come back and try again.
