MX SELECTseries3 not working, multiple errors after installing

I have installed MX SELECTseries3 and I have nothing but errors on trying to create a new project with a MX SELECTseries2 model.

It crashes on opening. After you get past the popups to report it to Bentley, you get some functionality but crashes again when closing the project.

My colleague does not even get to the start up panel stage.

I am using the model file only to avoid any previous errors experienced when migrating to a new version, and nothing else.

Does anyone else have problems in using MX SELECTseries3? The version I installed is mx081109494en_au.exe

  • If you want to open an existing MXroad ss2 file then you need to just browse to that location and open the mmd file, then it will give you notification of updating it to SS3 file, there is no need to create a new project for it but even if you create one and try to open the project it will prompt you to retain the existing model.fill or an empty one so both ways it would work,  please do check that you a have set the microstation settings as examples,Bentley Civil, Bentley Civil metric on opening window panel during the startup process.

  • Both upgrading the mmd to resolve the new patching for SS3 installation and creating a new mmd in the same location while retaining the model.fil should be fine when upgrading to SS3.

Have you tried creating a new drawing on entry  or a completely clean project and if so does this get round the errors ? If not please post the log file as this will help identify the issue.

  • I've tried all the suggestions above without success prior to posting to the forum as a matter of course through experiences upgrading previous versions. I have logged the problem with bentley and sent all the necessary screen dumps and log files to Bentley. Unhandled exception errors and .NET framework errors suggests to me that it is a problem with something other than that which I can solve. The MX version downloaded was the Australian version so maybe its something how that is compiled?

  • Here is my description in the Service log sent to Bentley (ticketno:[7000025886]), maybe someone else had the same problem and they do have a simple workaround:

I have installed MX SELECTseries3 from mx081109494en_au.exe and the product fails to load correctly
after installation. I have submitted error reports when this has occurred.

When starting using either MX ROAD or MX ROAD Microstation the product starts
ok and the tips box appears. I OK this and the MX Project Startup dialogue box
appears. I create a new project fill in the appropriate name and file location
and deselect the string naming convention. I click ok and click yes in the next
box to set standard file locations. Then MX just stops and the report error to
bentley box appears. After submitting the error, MX appears to open.

On exiting a popup box appears showing Microsoft .NET Framework as the heading.
The contents read 'Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your
application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and
attempt to continue. External component has thrown and exception '.

The error coding is attached. When press continue as this is the only option
available to proceed, MX crashes again showing the report to Bentley boxes. I
report to Bentley and then a Problem notification box appears indicating a log
    has been stored.
