I have a few questions/suggestions to see if we can get the program running for you. First of all, per the ReadMe, it is highly recommended for Windows 8 users to set the User Access Controls (UAC) to the lowest setting. In addition the InRoads Group V8.11 folder will need to be open for write access. I am not sure if this is applicable if you have been running in the program successfully prior to this issue, but it would be good to makesure these recommendations are followed.
1. Are you having any trouble getting only MicroStation V8i SS3 to launch or do you receive this same error message?
2. Can you check the shortcut icon for MicroStation and see if you have the command line switch set up for InRoads? The following is set up for users accessing InRoads Suite: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\ustation.exe" -wsLoad_InRoads_SS3=1 -wsINROADS_APP=Suite
3. If you are not able to load MicroStation by itself witout receiving the error message, you may want to delete the comand line switch to test if MicroStation can be loaded without InRoads. So the target would say: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\ustation.exe"
If you are able to load MicroStation without InRoads, there could be a corruption in the configurations used to launch InRoads. I would try a clean removal of MicroStation and InRoads by not only uninstalling them through the Add/Remove Programs, but clearing the folders that contain the MicroStation and InRoads data. I have attached the instructions for a clean removal of the InRoads SS3 civil products for Windows 7. I do not have instructions to accomplish this on Windows 8, so the process may differ slightly but it give a good direction of the location to searchfor data to delete before reinstalling.
Then when you reinstall the program, make sure you install MicroStation 08.11.09.459 and complete that installation before you install InRoads 08.11.09.493.

Hi Chris,
0) UAC set to lowest > no solution.
1) I can start Microstation with no problems
2) My shortcut is correct, as you described. > no solution.
3) N/A because I can start Microstation
Uninstall/re-install did not solved my problem.
Inroads SS3 did work properly for a period of time, untill 8/8/2013. There ware no other installions of other progams/software what so ever since the Inroads SS3 installation.
Inroads SS2 works fine.
Best Regards,
Update:
I have installed MS/Inroads site on my other machine with win 8 pro/64 bit.
Installation succesfull and I could start Inroads site.
But...
I left my machine with MS/Inroads open. After a while I return and MS/Inroads was closed !!
I wanted to restart Inroads but same problem as reason for this tread. So what is going on???
MS_IDLETIMEOUT = undefind, so Inroads should not shut down by itself.
Please help.
1. When you open only MicroStation, do you have the 'applications' menu at the top? This would be indicative of the command line switch being activated for InRoads.
2. Can you check in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\config\system and C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\appl directories for a file named 'LoadInRoads.cfg' or some other file that may contain a command line switch for InRoads SS2. This InRoads SS2 switch could be preventing the correct SS3 information from loading. If there is a file and the text inside that file reads "Load_InRoads_SS2=1", completely delete that file because it is trying to use the switchfor the InRoads SS2 application instead of allowing the SS3 tools to load.
3. When you open InRoads and you are in the MicroStation DGN manager, can you try setting the following options for the configurations at the bottom right before opening a DGN: User = examples, Project = Bentley-Civil-Imperial, Interface = Bentley-Civil. This will load the program with a workspace delivered with InRoads SS3 to insure good data is loaded. At this point create a New DGN using the InRoads 2D seed file and open it to load the product.
4. When you performed the uninstall/reinstall did you delete and of the files and folders for the program or just do an uninstall through the add/remove programs? I have included instructions for a complete removal of the InRoads program by uninstalling the program and also list the folders and directories that need to be manually deleted.
With MicroStation I do not have instructions, but after uninstalling the program, delete the following folders (after saving any configurations or workspaces you have that are needed). C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries) and C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries). This will include most of the data supplied with the program that needs to be deleted.
Then after the uninstall, the prerequisite information should be installed with the MicroStation SS3 program, but it may be a good process to go to the selectservices.bentley.com and download the Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications 08.11.07.03 and install first to make sure all the necessary information is correct and updated. Install the MicroStation 08.11.09.459 program and after completion install the InRoads 08.11.09.493 program. This removal and reinstall will correct any DLL or configurations that happen to be corrupt.
Hi Chris
1) When I open plain Microstation there is no 'applications' menu.
2) N/A, went directly to step 3.
3) I could get to the Microstation Manager, but any projectconfiguration caused the problem.
4) uninstall/reinstall: toke me a while to get there but I've uninstalled/deleted everything from Bentley System, Inc. Software, Directory's, registry, ... everything!
5) New clean fresh install:
a) pre-installation of prerequisites pdba08110903 (not 08110703 what you mentioned)
b) MS 081108495, up and running with delivered workspace ... several times and succesful
c) IR 081108496, up and running with delivered workspace... several times and succesful
Even let my machine go to sleep as that caused the problem, and... after activating, inroads was still running.
So good news. Inroads is still up and running.
Changed my machines energy saving to never go to sleep.
I will now create a new workspace based on the delivered workspace and see if things keep going.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks
