An issue came in today that I think will benefit the community to see troubleshooting techniques as we work toward a resolution.
I get the error "unable to build topology" when trying to build a network. Basic actions also cause crashes several times an hour.
The Unable to Build Topology message will appear in the MicroStation Message center when you open the GEOPAK Drainage project file. (GDF) It will list the name of the network or networks that it can not build. If you get this message you will need to delete the network from the project. ***Do not delete the nodes and links that make up the network.*** Then you will need to create the network again by adding a new network and selecting the outfall and build it.
If you ignore the Unable to Build Topology message then you will experience crashs even when working with components not related to the network that could not build.

I was the one that submitted the ticket and further investigation has helped me discover the problem:
Basically, I inadvertently had an upstream Node (Pipe Outlet to a Ditch link) in the Network coded as an Outlet. Once I changed this Node to a Junction the Network could be build and designed.

I'm having a similar issue as a result of various outlets in our model. In our specific site, there are a few box culverts and other outlets that dump the runoff into depression areas and produce overland flow in between adjacent areas. Is there a way to input these flared end sections into geopak without categorizing them as "outlets" and is there a way to input a "natural channel" link to account for overland flow, like they do in xp swmm? Thanks.
Correction, the structures aren't outlets, they're inlets in the form of flared end sections. The closest thing I can find to that is a headwall, any suggestions?
You may place the flared end section as a node type other but GEOPAK Drainage does not model this hydraulically. A natural channel is a ditch link and if you have a terrain with the channel then you can have the software cut cross sections along the channel path and use the cross sections in conveyance calcs
