Component quantities and clipping references

Hi,

Today I noticed to my surprise, that a clipped reference is not calculated at the component quantities. Am I doing something wrong (see attachements)?

Will there be in the next version of Open Roads an easy and accurate way (like to calculate quantities tool, if I don't use clipping references) to calculate quantities of multiple corridors, Civil Cells and terrains at once?
Civil cells for example are at this moment dramatically to calculate / costs a lot of time.

Example of component quantities with a clipped reference.

Example of component quantities without a clipped reference. Like you can see are the quantities the same.

  • I'm afraid that is how the software works. You still need cut cross-sections and add volume exceptions to calculate quantities along clipped corridor. And then you will need to calculate other elements such as civill cells with driveways, roundabouts, etc.

I think what we really need is a tool to report quantities from 3D model. That would harvest all quantities from 3d meshes and linestrings produced with corridors, civil cells, surface templates, etc. Possibly that tool could  categorize quantities by corridors and stationing (in component mesh element info there is stationing data given), civil cell names and produce complete bill of materials.

Collecting quantities from the3D model is most reliable since 3D model is a final product that is supposed to be constructed.

  • Thank you Jacquelyn and Adam,

Adam, you describe precisely, what I think  what should be in Open Roads today. Quantities are a very important part of the tasks a Civil engineer has. Now it looks like Civil Cells are only good for visualisation work. I hope Bentley comes with an update soon (before Ss4, my feelings say that the release of that will take a while).

  • Hi Jacquelyn,

Did you know the status at this point, Components Quantities are not correct in the latest version!

  • Component Quantities cuts corss-sections behind the scene so it will propagate all End-Area Volumes Method. What if Corridor is clipped by a slip road, intersection, retaining wall, skewed bridge abuntment?

Answer is simple, take off quantities directly form the 3D model. We have a VBA macro to harvest quantities directly from our 3D models and report that into the msexcell. Quantities might be taken off and sorted by any information that is available via element Info tool. Some enhancement would be needed, to distinguish civil cells, surface templates, etc. You can order similar macro or ask for felxitable (you will find a lot of posts regarding this tool on microstation forum)

However, it would be nice to get such a tool along with the software.
