IR V8i SS2
I have a user who is placing a guardrail with a widening template. The GR features are all flagged to exclude from triangulation, and indeed they don’t appear to be triangulated in the finished surface. But when we generate volumes, we get erroneous fill volumes that tie from existing ground up the face of the GR. I’ve flagged the GR component to be ignored in the cross sections End Area Classifications tab, and while InRoads is ignoring that component, it’s drawing a weird fill shape. Any ideas? TIA!
Hi Kate,
Can you include the exact version of InRoads you are using and the version of MicroStation. What I am seeing in that screenshot does appear very strange because it appears to have two completely different fill values in the same cross section set. The shape from the design surface triangles to the existing ground appear correct, but then there appears to be a completely different shape for the "fill" it is including under the guardrail. It appears to be two different shapes because of the 'shared' area appearing a different shade where the two shapes are overlapping. I have not seen this behavior before.

Hi Chris - you are correct - the fill is doubled up under the GR. I'm using InRoads 8.11.7.536 and
MicroStation 8.11.9.397. Thanks for looking into this!
