I am running Inroads SS2 and trying to get my arms around template transitions. The problem is the edit transition dialog box only displays the backbone of the template. How do you control transitions outside the backbone? For example, how do you control the transition of an end condition going from a 1:1 catch slope to a 2:1?
You can accomplish this by adding a feature name override to your cut/fill limits. For example, all cut solutions would end with a "cut" feature name and all fill solutions would end with "fill". When the surface is created the end conditions will solve at the specified template drop interval and the transition from 1:1 to 2:1 would be done over that interval, with the catch point features being connected due to the feature name over ride.
I'm not looking for an override. (although the information you suggested was very good - thanks)
If I were in the backbone of the template, I have the option of deleting specific constraints, that allow the neat transition between two different templates. I am looking for that same ability outside the backbone.
I have an end condition with a 3:1 slope. I want to transition that into an end condition with a 3.5:1 slope. and I want to do it it between Sta 3+00 and 4+00. and I and I want to drop templates every 10 feet. How do I get end condition slope to gradually transist, so I get a 3.25:1 at sta 3:50?
I don't know if this will answer your question, but what I have done in the past is assign a parametric label to the slope constraint in the template.
For example, I have multiple fill slopes, say 4:1, 3:1 and 2:1 with varying ranges such that the deeper my fill, the steeper my fill slope. If I assign the same parametric label to the slope constraint on each fill slope, I can then force a transition in roadway designer where needed.
If I need to transtition from a 4:1 fill slope to a 2:1 fill slope over a certain station ranger, I can assign that parametric constraint to force that transition and I didn't even have to use endcondition overrides.
You can also use an end condition transition. There are 2 options in the End Condition Override dialog - select the Transition. Double-click on that transition or click edit on the bottom of the dialog, and then connect the 4:1 to the 2:1 catch point.
what you describe is what I want to do, but I do not see the end conditions in the Edit Transition dialog. I only see the backbone of the template. How do I view/edit the end conditions?
You access the end condition transitions through the End Condition Exceptions dialog. It gives you options for Overrides or Transitions. After you input the transition, either double-click it or click Edit at the bottom of the dialog box. It brings up an Edit Transition dialog, then an Edit Transition Midpoint dialog, just like the ones for the regular backbone transitions. I've attached a graphic...
