V8i Series 3 v08.11.09.578 How to create a tin on a wall that is leaning using DTM Tools?

I am creating a TIN from survey info but I have several walls that are leaning, so when it builds the triangles it builds from the closest points so instead of goining from the ground points to the toe of the wall it goes to the top of the wall and visa versa. Is there a good way to get leaning walls to modal correctly?

  • The problem is the triangulation algorithm looks for the shortest path to connect the triangles. In your case the top of wall is closer to the adjacent ground at the bottom of the wall so the TIN forms from the bottom ground points to the top of wall. One of the rules of a TIN is any point on the surface can have only one elevation. Thus a TIN cannot model overhangs such as an outcrop on a cliff or a leaning wall. I cannot think of any way to solve your problem using a TIN.

You'll have to consider your ultimate objective and devise a way to achieve it without using the TIN.
