• LiDAR (.las) files in CONNECT

I am not seeing the option in CONNECT to reproject a .las file like there was in SS10. I am able to right mouse click once attached and change the GeoCS, but is there a way to do that prior to importing the point cloud?
  • LIDAR LAS to POD point cloud conversion scaling issue.

We're evaluating Openroads Connect Edition and one thing we're having problems with is the scaling of point clouds. I have converted the same LAS file using GeoPak and have not had any problems. The scale seems to be 3X the Geopak POD file and what dimensions…
  • Filter points from LiDAR upon import to terrain model

I have LiDAR of an irregular stone object that I'm attempting to bring into PowerGEOPAK as a terrain, using the "Create from Point Cloud" tool. It's working well, but my data needs cleaning up. In the process of importing, it is filtering out 90% of the…
  • Replacing Existing Ground Terrain Data in My Model File

I have a model file which has existing terrain data that is out of date. I want to replace it with newer .DEM terrain data in ConceptStation. Perhaps I am missing a simple command here but could someone explain how this is done? Thank you. - Ian
  • Problems with Lidar and Terrain Model

Currently trying to use Lidar data (.las) from the state of KY to make an inroads DTM. When trying to import into inroads SS2 the coordinates and elevations are way off. I tried to import in SS4 using the "Create From File" civil terrain tool. This will…
  • How to create automatically Toes and Crests from contours or LAS data

Does anyone know how to automatically create toes and crests (breaklines) from contours or LAS data acquired with drones (UAVs) in a mine? I have used many mining-specific softwares, as well as software to processing data from LiDAR and aerial photography…
  • "Memory Allocation Failure" displaying TIN in Power Geopak SS4

I have several LAS files from Lidar data that was shot across several miles of a road. I'm being given the .las files and have to clip them and stitch them together (there are about 40 of them all together) to get the best data and create the best total…
  • Lidar import

I'm having issues importing lidar data (.las). Can anyone see any issues with the dialogue in the attached image? I have the import set to just 'ground.' On import, it acts as if the trees are being imported as well.
  • Creating Geopak TIN files from LAS files

I have several hundred .las files that need to be converted to geopak ,tin files. Is there any way to create a batch that can do this?
  • LiDAR Data & GEOPAK

Background I am using MicroStation V8i w/ GEOPAK SS2. I obtained a ton of LiDAR data that covers about a 12-mile-by-2-mile area. The LiDAR data exclude all the surface waters (such as ponds, wetlands, rivers, and creeks) that are wider than 50 feet. The…
  • RE: Road and alignment design (lidar data)

It sounds as if you are looking to have the lidar data imported as an MX triangulation model in MXRoad. MX can directly import Lidar data however it can often be too large so importing it as a Point Cloud is often a preferable import method. The wiki…
  • RE: LIDAR Question

Josh Geopak and OpenRoads can both read LIdar v1.1 OpenRoads can read both v1.1 and v1.2 with no known issues
  • LIDAR Question

We are in discussions to receive an aerial photo/planimetrics/LIDAR of our city and county. In the end I would like to use a dtm from this data (along with survey data) in Corridor Modeler, GEOPAK Drainage, etc. I noticed that GEOPAK SS3 can import LIDAR…
  • Re: Convert LIDAR data

Extract XYZ should work but does not provide the filtering and thinning that you desire. You would end up with all umpteen gajillion points, when what you really want to do is thin the number of points to a managable size. My experience with the…
  • Re: Power Civil: LIDAR thinning

Neil - 2.5 million points is a fairly huge DTM. Not sure who advised you that you should be able to do 30 million. WIll PowerCivil do 30 milliion? Maybe, but probably not on a 2GB machine. Don't forget that your operating system and other processes will…
  • Re: InRoads - Thin Surface

Todd, Try using the Tools> Application Add-Ins> Thin Random Points command and see if it gives better results. Thanks, Jason Smithey
  • Re: Point clouds > InRoads DTM ?

In the 3 projects I've used lidar survey on, the surveyor has always provided .LAS files for us. InRoads has two application add-ins that work on these. First, the "Import LAS add-in" reads the data and dumps it into a DTM (as random points like…
