Problem:
When trying to export points from a surface to a text file using File > Export > Surface, it crashes InRoads and Microstation every time. Any surface and any dgn results in the same manner. Different hardware does not matter.
Versions:
Microstation v8i SS3- 08.11.09.459 , InRoads SS3 – 08.11.09.493
Using the same files with the same version of Microstation BUT version 08.11.07.615 of InRoads results in a successful exportation of the points to a text file.
Solution:
The export surface command in InRoads SS3 version 08.11.09.493 does have a defect and the bug is preventing users frombeing able to create text files through this command. This has been tested in a future test build and the problem does not occur in that build of InRoads so it should be fixed when the next version is released.
Workaround:
There is a process we are using as a workaround if you cannot back up to SS2 or a prior version of the software. To perform this workaround, you can run a surface report through Tools > XML Reports > Surfaces, including all features and toggle on the option for Include Feature Points to get the data into an XML Report. Once the report opens, look at the SurfaceInputFormat.xsl stylesheet under the Surface folder. This should contain the XYZ of each point where you can highlight all the information in the report and copy it to a text file.
