Problem:

I have imported a LandXML file into InRoads using the LandXML Translator.  This file was created in Civil3D.  When viewing the contours in InRoads, they do not match the contours in Civil3D.

Solution:

Since the LandXML Translator does not import triangle faces, the contours may differ from the Civil3D contours.  There are two possible workflows to resolve this issue:

Option 1

Workflow using MicroStation SS3:

1. Use the MicroStation Tools > Terrain Mode l> Import LandXML Terrain Model command to import the LandXML file as a MicroStation Terrain model.
   
   
   
   
   
2. Use the MicroStation Drop Element command to drop the Terrain model to a mesh.
   
   
3. Use the InRoads File > Import > Surface > From Graphics command to import the mesh as breakline features into a new InRoads DTM.
   
   

The result will be an InRoads DTM that triangulates exactly the same as the triangle faces contained in the LandXML file.

Option 2

Workflow using SS2 Data Acquistion on MSTN SS2:

1. Launch Data Acquisition (Tasks > Data Acquisition)
   
   
2. In Data Acquisition, right click on Surfaces and select Create Surface > Import External Surface > Import LandXML Surface.
   
   
   
   
   
3. After the surface is imported, turn OFF the display of everything except “Triangles”.
   
   
   
   
   
4. Right click on the surface name, and select Create Graphics.  This will write the triangles to MicroStation graphics.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Now you can use the InRoads File > Import > Surface > From Graphics command to import the graphics as breakline features in a new InRoads DTM.
