    Background

Curve fitting can be applied to strings via the style sets in the setting below.

This will graphically add curve fitting to a string when displayed with that setting enabled. The image below is a string displayed with no curve fitting enable in the style set.

The string displays as below when curve fitting is enabled in the style set.

This method is a very quick way to visually add curve fitting to MX string displayed using a style set, however it does have a downside due to no additional points being added to the strings exports to other CAD formats (I.e DXF,DWG) will show the string in it's original form as in the first image.

Curve Fitting can be applied directly to the strings which will add additional points as required and will create the desired export to other CAD formats.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Open the Copy Strings with Curve Fitting Tool

    2. On the panel select the required models and strings, ???? will select all the string in the model.

Select the required Curve fitting method to use.

MX Curve Fitting - based on circular arcs whose radii vary linearly from point to point along the string. Throughout a MX curve fit string, there is continuity of both bearing and curvature.

SPLINE Curve Fitting - applies a local spline between pairs of points so that tangential continuity is maintained throughout the string. Throughout a spline curve fit string, there is continuity of bearing but not of curvature.

    3. The results are a string that is had curve fitting directly applied and will export to CAD formats as displayed in MX.
