How to create a DTM file for an MX Design Model

    Product(s): MX
    Version(s): 08.11.09+
    Area:  Data Import & Export
Original Author: Jason Walsh, Bentley Technical Support Group

    Background

Some user require the MX design model to be exported to a DTM file. The process below details the process for achieving this.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Create a Boundary around the Design Model (MX>Modify>Edit Strings>Create a Boundary around Model).

    2. Create a triangulation model of the design model using the created boundary string to constrain it. (MX>Analysis>Triangle>Triangulation from a String Model)

    3. Convert the MX triangulation to an OpenRoads terrain. From the task menu select Create from File.

Browse to the model.fil of the project and select the tringaualtion model.

Select Import to create the OpenRoads terrain.

    4. Select the terrain in the drawing and hover over it, the context menu should appear as below.

Select Export Terrain Model in the context menu and select InRoads DTM from the drop down to export the terrain to a DTM file.
