Linking Survey Feature Definitions:

Theory: When data is imported into Survey, Survey looks at the Feature Definition of the Point or Linear Feature and then checks to see if that feature has been linked to the DGN file from either an InRoads XIN, GEOPAK SMD (in XML format), or MX PSS file.

If the Feature Definition is found to have been linked with the DGN, then Survey will display the Point or Linear Feature with the Symbology defined in the linked InRoads XIN, GEOPAK SMD (in XML format), or MX PSS file and copy that Feature Definition to the active DGN file.

If the Feature Definition is not found, then Survey will display the Point or Linear Feature with a built-in Default Symbology and the Feature Definition will show in RED when displayed in Project Explorer and an Exclamation Point Message Icon will be shown in the DGN View as well as the MicroStation Message Center. You can turn of the Message Icons by right-clicking in the MicroStation Message Center.

Example: Please see the below image, this images refers that imported data has been linked to the DGN file from InRoads, Geopak or MXRoad (In this example I am using the Geopak which is in XML format)

To Link Survey Feature Definition to the current DGN file:

1. Open Civil Standards under Project Explorer, left-click on Feature Definitions and then right-click.

2. You will then pick the option Link Survey Feature Definitions which will allow you to choose an InRoads XIN, GEOPAK SMD (in XML format), or MX PSS file which contains your Survey Feature Definitions used in the field.

3.   Select *.xml file and hit open, the survey feature has been linked in the current DGN file.
