Creating vertical text

Question:

How do I create vertical text in OpenRoads SignCAD?

Answer:

1) Pick Preferences>Drawing. In the Drawing dialog box, check the Letter outlining box to see white text on the white workspace. Press OK.

2) Pick the Arrange tool and left click on the workspace to bring up the Arrangement dialog box. Select Type: Column and press OK.

3) From the Preferences menu, set the desired Text Size and Text Font. For this example, the default 8” E Mod text will be used.

4) Pick the Text tool and left click into the column to position the text cursor. To create the word “text” vertically, type t<enter>, e<enter>, x<enter> and t<enter> as shown below.

5) To adjust the spacing between the letters, pick the Select tool and select each of the letters by holding down the <shift> key. Once all the letters are selected (have a small little white box next to each letter), then right click and pick Object Spacing as shown below.

6) In the Object Spacing dialog box, press the Simple button, set the Value = 1 and press OK. Notice that the bounding box on some letters (ex: e and x) show more space at the top even though the spacing is set to 1 for all sides. Left click on the workspace to deselect the text.

7) To get equal vertical spacing between letters, right click on the bottom “t” and pick Object Spacing. In the Object Spacing dialog box, press the Sides button. Enter a Top spacing = 3 and press OK.

8) To add the vertical text to a panel, left click on the column and hold down the mouse button to get the move hand. Drag the column with text into the panel. Release the mouse button when the panel blinks.

9) Save the file (File>Save As).
