Editing the speed limit in the W3-5 standard sign

Question:

How do I edit the speed limit in the W3-5 standard sign in OpenRoads SignCAD?

Answer:

  1. In OpenRoads SignCAD, pick the U.S. 2004 standard.  Pick the Standard Signs icon  on the toolbar.  In the Standard Sign dialog box, search for W3-5 and pick the 36”x36” size.  Press Open. Here is a wiki with instructions for locating Standard Signs - OpenRoads | OpenSite Wiki - OpenRoads | OpenSite - Bentley Communities.

2. To change the speed limit from 55 to 45 in the R2-1 18"x24" speed limit sign, right click on 55 and pick Edit Data. In the Text dialog, change the Legend to 45 and reduce the spacing % as needed. Press OK.

3. From the Preferences menu, pick "Allow Panel Selection" and then use the Select tool to window select the R2-1 speed limit sign.  Pick File>Create Object and press OK to the Object dialog box to create the R2-1 45 overlay sign panel object.

5. Select the R2-1 55 overlay sign panel object in the W3-5 sign and pick Edit>Delete. Select and drag the R2-1 45 overlay sign panel object over the W3-5 sign. Release the mouse button when the blinking rectangle appears below the arrow in the W3-5 sign.

6. Right click on the R2-1 45 overlay sign panel object and pick Object Spacing. Set the Top, Left and Right spacing = 1 and Bottom = 6.5. Press OK.

7. Save the file (File>Save As).
