Adjusting panel size

Question:

How do I adjust the panel size in OpenRoads SignCAD?

Answer:

All signs start with a panel, either the Standard Sign panel tool or the Rectangular Panel tool .

The Standard Sign panel tool has a fixed panel size specified by the user in the Size tab of the Standard Sign Panel dialog box. The Standard Sign Panel size will not change as objects are added to or removed from it.

Here are the steps to edit the size of a Standard Sign panel:

1) Right click on the panel and pick Edit Data.

2) In the Standard Sign Panel dialog, pick the Size tab and enter new Width and Height values.

3) Press OK to the Standard Sign Panel dialog to accept the changes.

The Rectangular Panel is variable in size, adjusting its size automatically as objects are added to or removed from it. The panel size is controlled by values in the Rectangular Panel dialog box. Default settings in the Size tab allow the panel width and height to change in 6” or 12” increments, depending on the standard used, starting with the Minimum and Current sizes specified. If the "Row height" and/or "Column width" boxes are checked under "Enlarge to Fit When In Multipanel," then the panel size will automatically adjust to match the main panel width and/or height. The settings in the Spacing tab also control the panel size. The selected Space to: Border or Space to: Panel Edge option determines how the spacing to panel behaves. If the panel size is to be limited to a required size, object size or spacing is adjusted to allow the panel to adjust itself to the required size.

Here are instructions for reducing a multipanel sign from 24"x30" to 24"x24":

  1. Right click on the multipanel and pick Edit Data. In the Multipanel dialog, uncheck the “Locked arrangement” box. Press OK.

2. To get the top Caution panel 24”x6”, right click on the top panel and pick Edit Data. In the Rectangular Panel dialog, pick the Size tab. Change the Minimum Height value from 12 to 6.

3. In the bottom of the General tab, press the Edit multipanel button. Check the “Locked Arrangement box” and press OK to both dialogs. The multipanel is now 24”x24” with a 24”x6” top panel and a 24”x18” bottom panel.

4. Save the changes (File>Save).
