Introduction:  The instructions and video below show how-to place Lane Control Panels in OpenRoads SignCAD.

Step 1:  In OpenRoads SignCAD, pick Panels>Lane Control. The Lane Control tool is a special rectangular panel tool that simplifies the design and editing of R3-8 signs.

NOTE: Before creating a new R3-8 sign, check the appropriate state or federal standard sign library to see if it already exists. For example, the U.S. 2004, U.S. 2009, Texas and Minnesota standard sign libraries already have many pre-made variations of these R3-8 signs available.

Step 2:  The Place Lane Control dialog shows the default panel parameters and has the same properties as the Rectangular Panel plus an additional Lane Markers group that allows you to add a lane marker to the panel edge and specify its size and position.

NOTE: The Lane Control Properties can be edited after creation through the Properties dialog.

Step 3:  A small cross-hair cursor identifies where the panel will be located. Left-click to place the Lane Control Panel on the workspace.

Step 4:  In the Place Lane Control Panel dialog, de-select Show Lane Markers and change the Display Border to Top, Right, Bottom as shown below.

Step 5: Left-click to place the Lane Control Panel on the workspace to the right of the other Lane Control Panel. Close the Place Lane Control Panel dialog.

Step 6: Join the Lane Control Panels together. Select and drag the right panel over the left panel and release the mouse button when the black, blinking line appears on the right edge of the left panel to join the panels together.

Step 7: Select one of the lane control panels and pick Properties. In the Lane Control Panel Properties>MultiPanel group, click on the Edit MultiPanel box to select it. In the MultiPanel group, click on the Dimension As Unit and Lock Arrangement boxes to select them. The panels in the multi-panel will now stay locked together when moved on the workspace and the overall panel width dimension of 36" displays.
