    Edit Surface in Cross Section

This workflow will demonstrate how to edit a surface from within a cross section and create a new surface from these graphics.  This new surface can then be displayed in the cross section.

For this example there is a horizontal alignment, an existing surface and a proposed surface.  Both the existing (green) and the proposed (orange) surface can be displayed in cross sections:

    1. Using MicroStation editing tools, the user can make manual edits to the proposed surface line (orange) as desired.  The follow screenshot shows the proposed surface line AFTER the manual MicroStation edits have been made.

    2. Now using the MicroStation command, Edit>Select By Attributes, select the edited orange surface line in every cross section.

    3. Use the InRoads command Evaluation>Cross Section>Add Surface to Cross Section to add a cross section surface to an existing cross section. Make sure that the correct cross section set is selected in the top left, set the Mode to "Graphics", and key in a new Surface name in the Surface field. Click Apply and the surface graphics selected in Step 2 above will be added to a cross section surface named "new surface".  You will need to click OK on the dialog boxes that will appear as each cross section is processed.

    4. Now use the InRoads command Evaluation>Cross Section>Cross Section to Surface to to add the points from the cross section surface to a DTM.  Set up the dialog as shown below and click Apply.

    5. Once the points are added, the new surface will automatically be triangulated.

    6. You can now go to Evaluation>Cross Section>Cross Sections>Update Cross Section and update the existing cross sections to display the new surface.  In the following screenshot, the cross sections were updated to display the existing surface (green), the proposed surface (orange) and the newly created surface (blue).
