What is a K-value?

The K-value is the horizontal distance required to achieve a 1% change in the slope of the vertical curve.

K=L/A
where L = length of curve and A = absolute value of difference in grades

"K” factors for various anticipated operating speeds are given in the AASHTO Green Book.
