How can I create Civil Geometry ruled elements from simple MicroStation elements?

Answer:

Use the Create Civil Rule Feature command to assign Civil Geometry rules to elements created by tools other than civil geometry commands. For example, MicroStation smart lines can become Civil Geometry ruled elements complete with manipulators and all the editing capabilities that derive therefrom.

Note: The element must be in a 2D design model to be able to convert it to a Civil Rule Feature.

Workflow:

Open the Civil Tools task pane to the General Geometry section then click the Create Civil Rule Feature icon.

Select the graphic element to which you wish to assign rules.

Reset (i.e., right-click in most cases) to close the selection set.

Question

How can I create Civil Geometry ruled elements from simple MicroStation elements?

Answer

Use the Create Civil Rule Feature command to assign Civil Geometry rules to elements created by tools other than civil geometry commands. For example, MicroStation smart lines can become Civil Geometry ruled elements complete with manipulators and all the editing capabilities that derive therefrom.

Note: The element must be in a 2D design model to be able to convert it to a Civil Rule Feature.

Workflow

Open the Civil Tools task pane to the General Geometry section then click the Create Civil Rule Feature icon.

Select the graphic element to which you wish to assign rules.

Reset (i.e., right-click in most cases) to close the selection set.

The selected element now has been assigned civil rules and you can select a manipulator to edit.
