    Background

Sometimes a user will recieve a survey containing 2D features and level anntation text. They will need to convert this to a 3D model in order for it to be in a format suitable for creating a design.

The 2D to 3D Surface tool (MX>Modify>Models>2D to 3D Surface) does this function, the tool derives the level annotation text contained in the 2D model and applies it to the 2D features to create 3D feature with Z values.

    Steps to Accomplish

The 2D to 3D Surface tool has 3 panel which are detailed below.

    Details Panel

The Details panel is where the model is selected and masking if required is applied. If you tick Apply Levels to Existing Strings the strings in the 2D models will be draped automically onto the created triangualtions model. If Apply Levels to Existing Strings is unticked you can select a model name for the New 3D Model.

    Point Shift

Generally the text for the level value is located away from the point that it relates to, the Point Shift panel is where values are entered to shift the location of the text to the location of the associated point.

    Data Filter

In this panel you can apply an minimium and maxium level range to exclude any roghue text values from the model.

When you have set up all the panels are required click Apply or OK to run the tool. The tool will run and create a triangulation model and apply levels to the orginal 2D Model or create the new 3D Model.
