This video demonstrates the workflow for importing 2D Text as Spot Elevations to a Terrain Model using the Create Terrain By Text Interpolation command in InRoads SS3 (OpenRoads).

Click the video below to play it. To view in fullscreen mode, first click the YouTube link at the bottom of the video to launch the video on the YouTube site. Then, click the fullscreen button (rightmost button at bottom of video).

Recorded in 1280 X 720 resolution.

www.youtube.com/watch

Outline of Steps:

In a 2D file, confirm text is displayed which indicates the spot elevations.

Use the graphical filter to create a filter for spot elevations.

Make a selection set out of the elevation text.

In the filter manager, right-click on the Graphical Filter option and select 'Create Filter from Selection Set'.

Select finish to ‘accept’ the selection options from the set.

Give it a Filter name (i.e. Spot Elevations).

Change feature type to spot and select finish.

Use Create Terrain by Text Interpolation.

Select the text filter we just created ‘Spot Elevations'.

Toggle on 'include text as spot levels’.

Leave edge method as remove slivers.

Select an appropriate feature definition.

Give the Features a Name.

The Heads Up display says to select filters then data point to accept. Left-click to accept.

You will notice that the HUD says 'text or linear filter has not been selected'. Even if importing ONLY spot elevations, you have to select a Linear Filter in this command even through there may not be any linear features to be imported.

Click on the Graphical Filter manager and create a Filter. Set the following options - Name = Linear, feature type = breakline, select finish. This is just an arbitrary filter so the information selected for the other options is not necessary.

Go back into the Create Terrain by Text Interpolation command.

Select Spot Elevations as the Text filter and select the Linear Feature filter we just created. Data Point to accept.

You will see that a terrain model will get processed and created.

You will see a terrain model will get processed and created.
