STAAD.Pro V8i (SS 6) Axial Force Diagram Colours & Node Results

Recently I've updated from STAAD.Pro SS 5 to SS 6. Unfortunately, a few things changed negatively and I'm wondering if I can change them back:

1. Axial force diagram has switched colours (red/blue) from before ... so now a tension member is showing blue instead of red as before. This is confusing. I know I can manually change back the colours as before, but is there a way to change the defaults so they view as I'd like them to from the start?

2. I used to be able to hover my cursor over a node and a pop up would appear showing displacement and force results for the current load case. Now, hovering the mouse just shows the node number. Any way to get that functionality back? This was a handy feature!

Thanks,

Neil

  • Corneil : Here are the responses to your questions

    1. You are correct that settings or changes to those are not being retained or saved across sessions in STAAD.Pro and this is something which our development team is working on and this is going to be reinstated in the software in the Connect Edition which is going to be available in July of this year. If you use the latest SS6 (20.07.11.90 ), the color for axial tension should be blue and axial compression should be brown. I just checked it. Are you not observing the same ?

    2. I think I am able to replicate this. When I first hovered over the node, it just showed the node number. So I went to the menu option View > Structural Tooltip Options and ensured that the relevant options are checked ( Node Numbers, Displacement and Supports for nodes) and clicked on OK. The tooltip then displayed everything. I closed out of STAAD.Pro and when I got back in, I had to do the same thing to get back all the items in the Tooltip but after that it seems to remember this setting in subsequent sessions. So please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

  • Sye, thank you for your reply.

Yes, I am observing the same ... however, this is opposite the colours that were showing in the previous version of STAAD. Not a huge deal, but a bit confusing nonetheless. Hoping this gets fixed for the next release!

Also, thanks for the fix for #2. Going to Structural Tooltip Options solved the issue.
  • Corneil : Good to know that it helped. The color for axial tension was blue and compression was brown in earlier versions also. We did not change that in SS6. So I am guessing that you may have set the colors other way ( brown - tension , blue - compression ) in your application ?

  • Hmm, maybe the defaults were changed somehow for my previous version? Is it still possible to change the defaults for SS6?
  • In the current version the changes made to these settings are not being retained. As I mentioned in my earlier post, this is something that will be addressed in the next release.
