Simplified Installation and Configuration

Installation wizard is used to install both BRCM and required SQL Server.
BRCM database and BRCMuser will be automatically configured to minimize setup time.

BRCM File Type Designations

Each BRCM file now has a file type. This will prevent users from executing cable management commands in files other than Routing files. File type can be changed as needed in the Document Manager.

During file registration process user will select file type

New Project Configuration User Interface

Project configuration tasks such as CAD standards configurations, Cable definitions, UDAs, cable routing rules and Raceway specifications are streamlined through Options tool.

User Interface for Creating Cable and Equipment List Import XML files

Cable and equipment XML import files can now be created through User Interface.

By designating column from Excel Cable List for each cable attribute users can customize XML import files to match their unique cable and equipment list structure.

Enhancements in the Raceway Router

  • Ability to place multiple raceway sections of different size and type at once.

Each raceway can have different set of properties and preferences.

  • Raceway configuration option will allow for quicker raceway group arrangement (configurable distance between raceway rows and columns).

  • Raceway arrangement can be previewed before placement to make sure that distances between different raceways are correctly defined. By default raceway configuration is checked for any raceway overlap before placement and user is prompted with message if overlap exists.

  • Most commonly used raceway configurations can be saved and reused across team members to increase efficiency and avoid repetitive task of setting up raceway configurations. By saving raceway configuration users are saving not only spacing between raceways but also all attributes associated with each raceway. Each saved configuration can be easily activated by selecting desired configuration from the configuration pull down.

  • Users can add UDA (user definable attributes) and associate them with different raceway catalogs.

  • UDA attributes can be included in various reports produced by BRCM (raceway schedule, cable schedule, BOQ…)

  • After raceway is placed bend radius can be changed with new Edit Raceway Fitting tool.

  • Additional raceway catalogs are added in imperial and metric datasets:

New Raceway and Equipment Catalog Creation Tool

  • New raceway and equipment catalogs can be created using new Catalog Management tools. With this enhancement new raceway catalog can be created in minutes using the existing catalogs and templates as a starting point.

  • For creating new raceway catalogs, any existing catalog can be used as the template to minimize data entry (raceway sizes are usually very similar between different manufacturers).

  • Raceway is described by three different size values:
    • Width and height: Represent physical or 3D size of raceway. This size will be used to create raceway in the 3D model. Physical size is usually different that trade size.
    • TradeWidth and TradeHeight are used to define raceway size that will be displayed in Raceway Router and used for all reports and section cuts. For example 6” wide cable tray has 6” TradeWidth while actual width in 3D model is 7.375”

    • WidthInside and HeightInside are used for all cable tray fill calculations. For example cable tray might be 7” high but loading depth is only 6”, so HeightInside should be set to 6”.

  • User definable Attributes can be added to new catalogs or modified for the existing catalogs.

  • New electrical equipment can be created based on the existing equipment parametric templates or customer’s 2D and 3D cells.

Redesigned and improved Equipment Manager

Users can save different configuration of same equipment type and recall them without having to define attributes each time. Each saved configuration will have all attributes saved as well.

List of recently used equipment is also added to make equipment placement faster.

Redesigned and Improved ID Manager

ID manager is redesigned to simplify and streamline user’s workflow.

  • Tools are organized in pull downs that are aligned with workflow steps
  • New electrical equipment can be added through ID manager.
  • New terminal connections can be added to the existing equipment.
  • Existing Equipment IDs can  be deleted or modified

Redesigned and Improved Cable Manager

  • Tools in Cable Manager are organized into workflow specific pull downs.

  • Performance of Autorouter is greatly improved (on average cable routing is about 45% faster than in previous build). Performance of other cable management functions are also improved (refresh routing model, auto-connect cables …).
  • Filter functionality is improved through expanding filtering options and ability to save filter results.

  • Auto Routing entry points can be defined and modified for selection set

Triangular Cable Routing Method

Triangular cable routing method is now fully supported and is configurable by user (spacing between tri-folds and between trifold and raceway is configurable,
Triangular cable routing method can be used with circuit number or group configuration only, so designated sets of 3 cables can be routed together.

Cable routing method assignments

Cable routing methods can be configured either as default options, or overwrites can be defined in the Raceway Router for each raceway by selecting cable routing method.

NEC Rules for Conduit Fill

NEC rules for maximum allowable conduit fill factor (National Electrical Code”, Chapter 9, Table 1) can be used to calculate conduit fill. User needs to select between having a single cable in conduit, or having multiple cables in conduit.

Based on identified number of cables inside conduit BRCM will use appropriate maximum fill factor.

xDCS (Cross Discipline Collaboration Services)

xDCS is a new tool used to compare the incoming information with information in the BRCM project database and present user with options for change management. It is used during cable and equipment list import and i-model import. User is presented with list of changes between incoming cable or equipment list or i-model with the information in BRCM project database.

  • Change in cable attributes is tracked through Design Sync Status and presented to user in Cable Manager to make it easier to react to change and make any additional changes as needed ( for example if cable size is changed, raceway fill factor should be updated).
  • Cables are not automatically deleted, but are marked for deletion and need acknowledgment from user to be permanently deleted.

Duct Bank Design Tools

Duct bank design is newly added set of tools in BRCM SS1

Duct bank design starts with spacer configuration and selection.

Base spacer selection dictates intermediate spacer size.

Spacer configuration determines horizontal and vertical spacing between conduits. Duct bank router will allow conduit selection up to a spacer size. If user selects conduit larger than the spacer size, a message will warn that conduit is too large for the selected spacer.

Conduits can be branched off the main duct bank as needed.

Conduit properties can be changed after placement as needed, or duct bank layout can be modified (stretched or extended).

Manholes can be placed along duct bank before or after conduit placement. Conduits will automatically terminate when entering the manhole.

After conduits layout is complete, concrete envelope is applied on entire duct bank.

Section cuts through duct bank can be automatically created.

Autorouter will autoroute cables through duct bank and manholes.

BOQ and Cable schedule can be automatically created reflecting duct bank IDs

Overall BOQ without Duct Bank IDs can be created as well

Trench Design Tools

Trench design tools is brand new tool set for underground cable trench design.

Trench router is used to layout trench concrete structure and cable supports inside.

Cable supports are treated as raceway and cables are auto routed through them.

Trench properties can be modified or fittings (tee and crossover) inserted into an existing cable trench.

Extractions are automatically created from trench model:

Section cuts are automatically created for trench model

Cable schedule reflect Trench support ID that they are routed through

Reporting Tools Enhancements

Output manager is enhanced with Report Template builder functionality.

Users can create new report templates or modify existing ones.
