Search For Child Features

Hello there,
I've recently started testing the capabilities of Bentley Utilities Designer V8i (SELECT Series 3), using the default data model provided with the software. I was looking for a way to display data features in the Data Browser and I found that the Search tool can do the job but it fails when it comes to child features (data or graphical). In the Search window I can select the subfeature and then a property to include in the search criteria but when I have to specify a search value the list that should include the respective domain values is blank. Even when I implement a search by a string type property (for example "CREATED BY") and enter a value that should result in at least 1 entry in the result table, the search provides 0 results.

I noticed there is a button Include items sub-types in results next to the Search for field which is always inactive and I checked in the Bentley Map documentation for it where it is said: "Search for items and their sub-items – does not apply to Bentley Map users".
Is there any way I can work with child features in bulk (in the Data Browser) since we'll probably need that in the feature.

Thank you in advance for you response!
Best Regards
Denitsa

  • Hi Denitsa,
I think the problem you will run into here is that the data browser does not currently support displaying sub-features, so even if the query is successful, you will not see the results.
The Design Assistant tool can perform bulk updates to features (and sub-features), so it may be what you are looking for, but it is tailored for design type activities. Can you explain what the use case is for the bulk updates (map maintenance, data conversion, scheduled work, etc.)?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    This is a test

  • Hi Mike,
Thank you so much for your response. I checked in the BUD help about the Design Assistant tool and the Feature Editor it provides and I think it should work for us. The problem is that for some reason we still can't manage to run the Workflow Manager on SQL Server to test it. But I’m going to feature this in a new post if we can’t solve the problem ourselves.

    Thanks again,
    Denitsa
