Hi,
We are now at the stage in development where we are wanting to incorporate a Context Capture Model into our Substation file, edit this and add our newly created CAD symbols in substation.
We have a Context Capture '.3sm' file that we are hoping to use.
- Can we use this file?
- Doo I attach this using the 'attach reference manager'
- How do I edit this Context Capture Model within Substation using substation tools (ie delete non required equipment etc)
Thank you in advance
Amanda
Hi Amanda,Yes you can incorporate Context Capture models in OpenUtilities Substation. After referencing you can place Symbols in Substation.- Yes you can use *.3sm in Substation Projects.

Yes the Context Capture file needs to be Attached as a Reference as there is no option to Import *.3sm files.

-Since you the Context Capture file is referenced it cannot be edited from Substation, the file needs to be edited separately for any changes to be made.

Hope this helpsRegards,Satish Saptasagar
Hello Amanda! I have experimented with several basic scenarios using Context Capture models with Bentley Substation. However, this was done some time ago, and my notes and documentation may be out of date. I will review my notes and coordinate with you and Satish soon.
Bentley Descartes and ContextCapture Editor can be used for mesh & geometry retouching workflows. There are several YouTube videos on the Bentley Reality Modeling channel which explain the retouching workflows.
You cannot retouch or really “edit” the mesh using Bentley Substation. However, I do have a workflow that allows you to use Substation 2D or 3D graphical objects to classify separate regions of a ContextCapture mesh. These objects can be tagged with properties and can be used not only to query and search a reality model, but also hide equipment, structures, etc. without needing to edit and reproduce the mesh. My workflow also sets up geospatially correct design files for easy and accurate referencing.
My Substation workflow was developed several years ago (IE needs updating) but if you are interested, I would be glad to assist.
Thank you Mike, That would be very much appreciated if I could have a look at your workflow and how you manipulated the context capture in a design.
I just received your email.. and will have a look. Thank you again
