Terminal / plug-pin manager in 8.11.12.137

Under what circumstances can newly placed terminals refuse to appear in the term/pp manager when they can be seen when you use Run Graphical Plan?

I have 3 terminals that appear on the schematic and reveal their existence on the wiring diagram & yet behave this way.

I have tried to rename them to a different device ID then change them back, to no avail.

(Running W7 Pro with 8.11.12.137)

  • Can you please tell whether all the terminals in this device ID are not shown or only 9,10,11 ones ?
  • Initially only the added ones 9,10 & 11.

They were spares and asked if I wanted to use them. Added as one end of the cable has all cores terminated but these 3 cores are spare non-connected ones at the other end.

Also IF relevant I added them by using place symbol again on a symbol on the same terminals devID.

However after re-running the "Run G Plan" the 9,10 & 11 appear in there but now the whole of the XTS3 term block has disappeared from Term pp manager, no matter how many times I run it or close and restart pe.

Did a bkup and rebuild which restored XTS3 but still no 9,10,11 or any other terminal.

Made block XTS66 with terminal 1 in it on the schematic. Looks like all my terminals and their standard settings.

However term pp manager see XTS66 but no terminals appear in it.

This occured to me when I had 8.11.12.88 running but was fixable by renaming the terminals devID to say XTS30 then okaying that. Then changing it back to XTS3.

This all goes hand in hand with my main issue with the current pe. Graphical plan terminals cannot just be refreshed or those pages redone without deleting the pages and then redoing them. Its still there in 8.11.12.137.

  • Richard, I'm not sure if you're dealing with some corruption or if there is a specific, repeatable workflow that can cause this behavior. For example, there was an issue since resolved where spare terminals would be missing from Terminal Manager if the panel layout symbols for them were deleted. If you can make the problem of terminals or entire strips missing from Terminal Manager occur in a brand new project, it would be great if you could provide the exact steps required.

Terminals 9, 10, and 11 were initially spares. After you inserted terminal symbols and were prompted with "Terminal is currently defined as a spare. Do you want to use it?" you would normally be left with new 9, 10, and 11 terminals in addition to the spare 9, 10, and 11 terminals. Was that the case? Did you delete the spares from Terminal Manager at any point?

There is an open enhancement request to be able to update graphical plans without deleting and re-inserting them. I have added you to the requestor list.

  • Matt sorry for the delay, had to go away to site then get back onto drawings again.

Proved it not to occur on 4 other projects so it seems to be a corruption.
We tend to copy a template so it may be across that machine type template.
So I'll try to redo it.

No I didn't delete the spares just answered yes to the request to use them.
No I just saw 3 terminals in the list numbered 9-11 in the "Run Graphical Plan".
Also renamed the Terminal 9 to be on a different DEV ID, XTS66.
It too appears in G.Plan but no terminals are in the list in Term.Manager.
  • Result:
A terminal has to join something ( a device) before it will be seen.
(Any wire connected to it must be connected both ends before the terminal is seen.
So I also found that you cannot leave an end of a wire unconnected.
(Was trying to to have all the cores of a cable connected at one end. The spares at the other end are bound up unused.)
So created a connection point. Join your spare wire to it and the terminal appears in terminal manager.

Before it can be seen in Terminal/Pin-Plug Manager? That should not be the case. Does that happen in other projects or just this suspect one? When I create a new project and insert a schematic terminal symbol on a page, I can right-click the symbol, select Terminal/Pin-Plug Manager and see the terminal there.

  • Will check it out as I don't remember checking any other projects.
