I am running version 8.11.11.85. When I run the migration wizard to convert an old legacy Promise file, I follow the steps in the wizard and point to the old files on the server.
When I start the migration wizard, I instantly get a message that the conversion is complete but the only thing that was created was the project file name. It seems to hang up
and then I have to close the wizard.
How can I get this working? We have a lot of legacy projects that when required , have to be converted to the current version so that we can update drawings.
Hi Matt,
At some point in time this used to work. I have tried the wizard on several projects over the past few months but get the same result. I ended up asking another user in the office to do the migration for me but his hard drive crashed last week, so I need to get this working
Does the Migration Log file say anything helpful? You said the migration seems to "hang up" do you mean the progress bar shows it not completing, like hanging at 9% or something like that? How long have you let it run before quitting?
The log file is empty. The progress bar stays at 0% even after 10 or 15 minutes. It seems like it thinks the migration is complete even before any task is started
If the migration Completed, the progress would have gone to 100% and you would have gotten a message saying it was done. 15 minutes is not very much time to do a migration. I would try setting it up and letting it run overnight to see what happens.
When this worked, it usually took 1 hour at the most to do a migration of several dozen drawings. The part that concerns me is that I am getting the migration complete message even before the process has started
If you are getting the "complete" message, then that sounds like what Matt described earlier...that some necessary file required by migration is missing or corrupt so stops the migration before it can even get very far.
Are you trying to migrate the legacy projects from a backup or from a raw uncompressed project file?
What version are the legacy projects from?
Can you still open the legacy project in the older version to confirm if it is a valid file?
Could you send a copy of one of the project files to use to investigate? (https://communities.bentley.com/help/w/be_communities_help/7079/communities-secure-file-upload)
You did say the files were on the "old server". Do you get any different result if you copy one of the projects to a local folder on this machine and then try the migration?
I have always migrated from raw uncompressed project files. I do not have an older version of promise on my local drive to try. I will try the migration from my local machine and not the network and see what happens.
I have attached one of the legacy files that I have been having problems with
