I am running version 8.11.11.85. When I run the migration wizard to convert an old legacy Promise file, I follow the steps in the wizard and point to the old files on the server.
When I start the migration wizard, I instantly get a message that the conversion is complete but the only thing that was created was the project file name. It seems to hang up
and then I have to close the wizard.
How can I get this working? We have a lot of legacy projects that when required , have to be converted to the current version so that we can update drawings.
When this worked, it usually took 1 hour at the most to do a migration of several dozen drawings. The part that concerns me is that I am getting the migration complete message even before the process has started
If you are getting the "complete" message, then that sounds like what Matt described earlier...that some necessary file required by migration is missing or corrupt so stops the migration before it can even get very far.
Are you trying to migrate the legacy projects from a backup or from a raw uncompressed project file?
What version are the legacy projects from?
Can you still open the legacy project in the older version to confirm if it is a valid file?
Could you send a copy of one of the project files to use to investigate? (https://communities.bentley.com/help/w/be_communities_help/7079/communities-secure-file-upload)
You did say the files were on the "old server". Do you get any different result if you copy one of the projects to a local folder on this machine and then try the migration?
I have always migrated from raw uncompressed project files. I do not have an older version of promise on my local drive to try. I will try the migration from my local machine and not the network and see what happens.
I have attached one of the legacy files that I have been having problems with
_____630.EC1.zip
Well just taking a quick look at the contents of that file there is definitely some unexpected things in there that could be affecting the migration. In the installation folder there are 16 drawings, but there are 2 different Names files, while only one is allowed, and neither of them lists 16 pages. One lists only 8 pages and the other 12. I will have to investigate this more and try the migration myself to get more details. But I'd say there are some odd things in here throwing off the migration, hence the issue. If you have more projects that get the same behavior you could look to see if they have similar issues, or maybe some different things going on in those other projects.
I tried running the migration from my local machine but had the same results. Those files were most likely the result of software upgrades over the years. They would not have been edited by anyone in my organization
