Is it possible to maintain text position when replacing symbols?

Hello,

For some symbols I am required to move the text position as it clashes with lines, other symbols and other text. When I update symbols through the Symbol Creation Wizard I want to replace the existing ones with the new one, but by doing this the text positions revert back to the original position and I have to go through and re-position them again. So my question is, is it possible to maintain text position when replacing symbols?

Thanks,

John

  • Hi John. What product are you using?

There may be an existing enhancement request that matches yours. Ideally, symbol design is complete before it is used extensively in projects, and Replace Symbol is meant to replace the symbol on the page with the symbol definition in the catalog including text positions, so the demand for such an enhancement may be low.

That said, if there was a Text Positions check box in the Maintain on New Symbol area of the Replace Symbol dialog that would affect all symbol texts (Device ID, Connection Point Text, Symbol Attributes, etc.), would that satisfy your question? Or does each text type (Device ID, Connection Point Text, Symbol Attributes, etc.) need its own "maintain text position" check box? The latter option may be less likely to be implemented.
